Calling for Assistance - What if I call 911 from a cellular phone?
(1/1/2005) When calling 911 on a cellular phone from anywhere in the state of Connecticut, you will be connected to the closest State Police Troop - in New Haven you will get Bethany Troop I. You must tell their dispatcher the city or town you want to speak with and they will connect you to that 911 operation. Cell phones do not have the capability of determining the location from which the call originates.
This applies only to cellular phones. If you are using a traditional phone, including cordless, you will automatically be connected to the 911 Emergency Service in the town from which you are calling.
Keep in mind an additional layer of communication has been added when using a cellular phone. This is important to remember in an emergency. Do not become frustrated because the call keeps being transferred. Speak calmly and state the problem as clearly as possible. Answer all of the questions being asked of you. The call taker is trying to insure that all of the emergency services you need will properly respond.
